Match Summary

Chasing 287 down under the lights is always a tough ask and the South Africans didn't do any good to themselves by losing wickets in a heap. It all looked pretty with Gibbs and Smith batting with all their guns blazing but soon after their dismissals, the run-chase started slipping downwards resulting in enormous pressure which eventually called the shots. The Australians executed their plans to perfection and Ponting's captaincy was top notch. The bowling changes worked big time and that rounded off a perfect win for the Australians. With this victory, they go one up in the ODI series and the South Africans will have to really come back hard from such distress to prove themselves any good.
