Match Preview
The Black Caps were totally outplayed in all departments of the game at Hamilton, they would need a sensational performance as a team to put it past this strong Indian lineup. The problem though is they don't have the firepower in the bowling to contain the Indians, Andy Moles has asked for more assistance from the track at Napier in order to level the series, but that could backfire spectacularly since India have one of the best new ball attacks in Zaheer and Ishant.

The top order performed woefully at Hamilton, so it will not be a surprise if Vettori and McCullum move up the order. Ross Taylor has underperformed consistently given his talent, that is a huge setback for the Kiwis. The more pressing concern would be however to take 20 wickets to win the match and Vettori and co will be spending a great deal of time in chalking out a plan for that eventuality.

Team news
India are likely to go in with an unchanged squad, while the Kiwis will give Jeetan Patel a go instead of either Kyle Mills or James Franklin, Daniel Flynn and Iain O'Brien are expected to be fit in time for the match even though both are carrying minor niggles

Pitch conditions
The Napier wicket had been affected by a fungus which meant that it had forced the curators to move two to three feet sideways, so that the new track included half the original pitch and half of the adjacent one, but Phil Stoyanoff the groundsman at McLean Park has rubbished the claims saying "Any of this mythical talk about slime outbreak on the wicket, or algae or the fungal attack, is a lot of rubbish," The pitch though is expected to be a batting beauty which would certainly not please Andy Moles the NZ coach. Almost picture perfect weather with plenty of sunshine is predicted throughout the Test match

103:6- The ratio of Test hundreds between India and NZ.
0- The number of Test matches NZ have won here out of the seven they have played
1- The number of catches Rahul Dravid needs to surpass Mark Waugh as the top catcher in Test match cricket

"We have probably got to move away from what we want, and actually just perform on whatever we get. We know we can perform a little better on a wicket that has got a little bit in it, but we have got to make sure we do well on this particular wicket." Dan Vettori is resigned to the fact that there will not be a green top on offer at Napier

"One of the first milestones we have achieved is to take the lead, now it's important to play the same kind of cricket in the second and third game," Dhoni on needing to keep up the same intensity to seal the series
